I gathered pieces for a submission to the Julia Cameron memorial annual event. I think they go together as images using leaves. Leaves are an ongoing theme in my art making related to aging. I’ve created subgroups in the “Portrait of a Woman” project. The many images I have produced since 2016 give me opportunity to contemplate connections and concepts. You may recall the sunglasses grouping ? I posted last week. Thx for sharing the journey.

Oh Youth!!!
Two early works when I was learning to meld my own image with trees. These two underlying self-portraits were in reality taken from earlier years as I was initially very uncomfortable showing or using my image as I actually appeared. So I started with photographs taken years before. Over time I am a bit more brave. I think of my work as a statement in resistance to culturally held beliefs. I still have discomfort but I mostly ignore it and carry on. How are tryouts feeling about your own face and image?

Well this was fun finding the sunglasses images in the “Adjusted Selves” portfolio of the “Portrait of a Woman” project. The project I started in 2016 is yielding more and more unique qualities and ways to combine the pieces. This grouping emerged as I look for smaller sections to use in grant applications.
